Decorating with coastal décor is a great way to bring a relaxing and beachy feel to any room in your home. We like to achieve this look is by incorporating natural elements such as driftwood, shells, glass, rattan and plants into the décor. You can incorporate these items into a centerpiece or display them on shelves or in bowls. Another way to achieve a coastal look is through the use of soft blue, white and sandy beige colors. These colors can be incorporated through the use of throw pillows, artwork, blankets, and rugs. The use of natural fibers such as jute, cotton and linen can also add to the coastal feel. Adding minimal nautical accents such as a piece of coral or starfish can also be a great way to add a coastal touch, but don't go over board here. The goal is to create a peaceful costal feel without it being in-your-face.

Faux plants:
Using plants in coastal decorating is important because it brings a touch of nature, tranquility and serenity into the space and helps to create a harmonious connection between the indoors and outdoors. Coastal areas often have a lot of greenery and natural beauty, and incorporating plants into the décor can help to capture that essence. Plants can also be used to add color, texture, and dimension to a room. We use faux plants to create the feeling at Pink Pineapple. Some of our favorites are palm trees, ferns, succulents, and cacti. Remember to use these in moderation and only purchase plants (like the ones below) that look real!
Vases:
We love using unique vases when decorating. Mixing and matching different sizes and shapes of vases and décor can create a unique look in your room. You do not have to add any greenery or plants to the vases, they make a statement on their own. When choosing a vase size for a room, it is important to consider the size of the room, but the larger the vase the better because it creates more drama and balance.
Small Accessories:
Using groups of three when decorating is a design principle that can add visual interest and balance to a space. The number three is considered to be aesthetically pleasing and creates a sense of harmony in a room. When decorating with groups of three, you can use three of the same item, such as three identical vases on a mantel, or you can use three different items, such as a combination of a vase, a candle holder, and a picture frame. The key is that there are three items in the group. Grouping items in threes can create a sense of asymmetry and movement in a room, which can make it more visually interesting. It also creates a sense of balance in the space, as the items are arranged in a way that is pleasing to the eye.
Wall Décor:
Wall décor is an essential component of all Pink Pineapple Properties as it plays a crucial role in creating a cohesive and visually appealing space. We use it to add color, texture, and personality to each room, making it feel more inviting and personalized. Wall décor can also be used to make a statement or to draw attention to a specific area of the room. For example, using a large piece of art as a focal point can create a sense of drama and draw the eye to a specific spot in the room. Moreover, it can also be used to create a certain mood or atmosphere, such as using calming or peaceful imagery in a bedroom or bold and colorful pieces in a living room to make it more lively. Additionally, it can also be used to fill empty spaces, to balance out a room or to provide a sense of symmetry and visual interest. Think outside of the box with wall décor, a groovy surfboard or old fishing buoys make the perfect statement pieces in coastal decorating.
Mirrors:
Decorative mirrors are a versatile and functional decorating tool and an important element in coastal décor because they reflect light and create the illusion of space, making a room appear larger and brighter. They also enhance the feeling of coastal living by adding a sense of openness and airiness, which is often associated with the beach and ocean. Mirrors can be used to reflect other decorative elements in the room, such as artwork, plants, or natural light, creating a cohesive and visually pleasing design. They can also be used to add a touch of elegance and glamour to a coastal-style room. We like to make mirror collages by pairing interesting mirrors with artwork and décor to create unique focal points in rooms.
Aroma:
Aroma is an important element in coastal décor because it evokes the feeling of being by the sea and the beach because it truly captures the essence of the coast. The use of certain scents such as sea salt, ocean breeze, and driftwood can transport you to the coastal environment and create a sense of relaxation and tranquility. Aromatherapy candles, diffusers, and oils can also be used to create a soothing ambiance in a coastal-style room. The scent of citrus, lavender, and eucalyptus can also be used to create a refreshing and uplifting atmosphere.
Trays:
One of our favorite styling tricks is the use of decorative trays. Styling the perfect coffee table tray can add a touch of elegance and organization to any living room. To begin, choose a tray that complements the aesthetic of your space and provides a surface to hold items. Next, select a few key pieces to include on the tray such as a vase of flowers, a candle, or a stack of books. These items should be of varying sizes and textures to add visual interest. Arrange these items in a balanced and pleasing manner, making sure that the tray is not overcrowded. If you want to make it more functional you can add a coaster and a small tray for keys or glasses.
Coffee Table Books:
We use large scale coffee table books everywhere! Large coffee table books are a great way to add both function and style to your living room décor. They can be used to create a focal point on a coffee table or bookshelf, and also serve as conversation starters when entertaining guests. When using large coffee table books in decorating, it's important to choose books that complement the aesthetic of the room and reflect your personal interests. For a costal inspired room, look for books that have beautiful covers that picture the beach or sea. Think of them as artwork for your room. You can use books to add height to your decor by stacking them on top of each other or using them as risers for other decorative items. Using large coffee table books not only adds visual interest to your space but also shows your personality and interests to your guests.
Pillows:
Decorative pillows are a simple yet effective way to add a cohesive look, personality and style to any room in the house. They can be used to add color, texture, and pattern to a space, and can be easily changed out to refresh the look of a room. Choose pillows that tie together the elements of the room and stick with the coastal feel.
They can be used to add a pop of color or a touch of luxury to a room, and can be easily replaced or swapped out when you're ready for a change.
