We have compiled a list of our favorite essentials to create a coastal feel in your home so no matter where you live you can create that laid back, relaxed vacation vibe easily and inexpensively.

Creating a comfortable dining room is essential for promoting relaxation and family time. A costal dining room should be aesthetically pleasing, functional, and promote a sense of calm and tranquility. We like our homes to feel coastal without them screaming BEACH HOUSE at every turn.

Designing a coastal dining room requires incorporating elements that reflect the beach and ocean theme. Start by choosing a light and airy color palette inspired by the sea and sand, such as whites, blues, and greens. Use natural materials like wood, woven wicker or jute for chairs and accessories and incorporate plants, white vases and nautical accents like rope or seashells. Hang a beautiful seascape artwork on the walls, and finish the look with a statement lighting fixture, such as a beaded chandelier or chandelier made of driftwood. To complete the coastal feel, add plenty of natural light, whether through windows or a skylight, to give the space an open, airy vibe.

Dining tables:

When choosing a coastal dining table, there are a few factors to consider. First, consider the size of the table and make sure it will fit comfortably in your dining space. Next, think about the material of the table. A wooden table with a whitewashed or distressed finish is a great choice for a coastal aesthetic, but glass, white resin or concrete tables can also work well. Consider the overall style of your home and choose a table that complements it. A table with a sturdy, durable construction that can withstand the wear and tear of daily use is important. Lastly, it's also useful to think about the table's design and functionality. Do you want a table with a built-in leaf to expand its seating capacity, or one with a removable leaf for easy storage?

Pro Tip: Do not buy a dining table set that comes with chairs. Buy the table separately from the chairs. This keeps your design personal and unique.

Dining Chairs:

When choosing dining chairs for a coastal-style dining room, it is important to consider both comfort and style. Natural materials such as rattan, wicker, or bamboo are popular choices as they evoke a relaxed, beachy feel. Alternatively, you can opt for chairs made of light-colored wood such as pine or oak to complement the coastal theme. Blue or green upholstered chairs in a nautical-inspired fabric can add a pop of color, while neutral options such as white or beige can help to balance the room's overall look. It is also important to consider the size and scale of the chairs in relation to the dining table and room. Look for chairs with sturdy frames and comfortable seating, as they will be used often for meals and entertaining. We like to mix and match chairs to keep the look interesting. Consider purchasing 4 chairs that match and 2 coordinating larger chairs for the ends. This gives a refined elegant look to your table.

Table Décor:

Choosing the right table décor in a coastal-themed dining room can help to enhance the overall look and feel of the space. For a beachy touch, use natural elements like seashells, starfish, or driftwood to create a centerpiece. Fresh or silk flowers in shades of blue, green, or white can also add a pop of color and bring a touch of nature to the table. Candles, lanterns, or fairy lights can also be added for a soft, ambient glow during meals. With the right table décor, your coastal dining room can be transformed into a warm, inviting space for dining and entertaining. Have fun with this. Mix and match different sizes, shapes and colors to create a unique look and use a large try to pull it all together.

Greenery:

Its very important to bring a touch of greenery onto the dining table. Rather it be real flowers or faux, find something that speaks to you. We like to use faux florals because its easier for rentals. If you decide on faux make sure that it looks real because a bad fake plant can throw off a whole room. Add stems to vases and smaller potted plants to your tray.

Trays:

Decorative trays can add a practical and stylish touch to a dining table. Trays can be made of a variety of materials such as metal, wood, or bamboo, and come in a range of sizes and shapes to suit different table styles and uses. In a coastal-themed dining room, trays made of natural materials, such as wood, wicker or rattan are what you want. We like to use trays to create a well composed look on the table. Use three to five accessories/plants to create a cohesive look. Have fun with this by using books for height, shells/beads for color and candles for lighting. By adding a decorative tray or two to your dining table, you can not only enhance the room's appearance, but also make mealtime more efficient and enjoyable.

Lighting:

Lighting is crucial in setting the mood and ambiance of a dining room. Proper lighting can make a room feel warm and inviting, enhance the appearance of food and decor, and create a comfortable atmosphere for dining and entertaining. A combination of overhead lighting, such as a chandelier or pendant lights, and task lighting, such as wall sconces or table lamps, provides optimal illumination for dining. Dimmable lighting options allow for adjusting the light level to match the occasion, from a bright setting for a dinner party to a low, intimate glow for a romantic meal. It is important to consider the type of bulb used, as well, as the color temperature and brightness can greatly impact the feel of the room. With the right lighting, a dining room can be transformed into a stylish and functional space for gatherings and meals.

Rugs:

When selecting a rug for a coastal-themed dining room, consider materials and patterns that complement the beachy aesthetic. Natural fibers such as jute, sisal, or seagrass bring a textural element to the room, while blue or green hues can evoke the ocean. Bold stripes or nautical-inspired prints add a touch of whimsy to the room. The size and shape of the rug should also be taken into account, as it should be proportionate to the dining table and room and provide ample space for chairs to be pulled out and moved around. Opt for a rug with a low pile to avoid any tripping hazards, or consider a durable, easy-to-clean option such as a flat-weave or indoor/outdoor rug if spills are a concern. A well-chosen rug can help to tie the coastal dining room together and enhance its overall look and feel.

Not all dining rooms/tables need a rug. This is something to consider while setting up your room. Will the rug detract from the space, is the space large enough for a rug, and will it create a tripping hazard are all great questions to ask.
